Together with the Palace of Parliament, the Romanian Athenaeum (Ateneul Roman) is one of the most iconic landmarks of Bucharest. Built between 1886 and 1888 based on the plans of French architect Albert Galleron and partially funded through a public fundraiser, it was intended to be a home to Romanian art and sciences, hosting events from concerts to scientific debates. Today, it is the headquarters of the George Enescu Philharmonic and as well hosts the yearly George Enescu International Festival.Also, let’s not forget about the magnificent fresco decorating the main concert hall by the Romanian painter Costin Petrescu which depicts 25 iconic scenes from the history of Romania and also hides its own interesting story.Back to the tips promised:Tip 1: According to the website, the ticket office is on Constantin Esarcu street.
